Burgess Diary Month 2 and 3
Visit to the Office
I love meeting people and getting loads of cuddles, so Mum took me into work to meet everyone. I had my travel run with me - but ended up running around the office searching out all the hay and excel samples I could find. It's like rabbit food heaven! Every so often I'd run back to Mum's desk - check she was still there and just settle down for a rest under her desk.
Everyone at Burgess Pet Care loved me and I entertained them all with lots of cuddles! I even tried to help out where I could. Here I am reminding Jo about a memo in her in tray - it was so comfy there I decided to have a rest too.
Playing in the Garden
Even though I've got a nice big hutch - there is nothing better than running around free in the garden. Luckily Mum's garden is totally enclosed so I can't escape - but she only lets me run around free when she's around just in case there are any cats lurking about - as they could get in.
Word of warning - ponds and water features might look nice but I do not recommend jumping in them! You get a nasty shock of cold water and even though I can swim and did swim to the end where Mum fished me out - it's not my favourite pastime! Even worse after I had jumped into the pond, Mum insisted on giving me a warm bath to 'clean me up'. I hated every minute of it! I have decided water is only good for drinking and won't be going near that pond again!
Visit to the British Vet Nurse Association Congress
Believe it or not rabbit owners still are not taking their rabbits to the vets for regular health checks and vaccinations. It's getting better but because of this there are still quite a few vet nurses that don't get the chance to see too many rabbits in practice. So Burgess Pet Care have started running educational workshops for vet nurses to get more confident in handling rabbits and learning what to look for during health checks and dental checks.
As I am the Burgess Rescue Rabbit I voluteered my services to be a workshop rabbit (or should that be guinea pig? ha ha) for the day. This means I was allowed to go to the congress with Mum and meet lots of vet nurses. This is me demonstrating how to have my teeth checked.
I even got to spend half an hour on the show stand with my friend Roger who belongs to Lorraine from Burgess.
Mum made sure we got plenty of rest periods where we would go and rest in our travel runs in a quiet room - but I love getting out and about - I am turning into quite the celebrity! I also feel rather put out if Mum doesn't come and take me out with her every morning these days!
A New Friend - Meet Belle
Even though I do spend a good majority of my time out with Mum - it's important for us rabbits to have company of our own species too.
So Mum got another rescue rabbit to keep me company. Her name is Belle, a lovely mini lop eared rabbit. She was still only 8 weeks old when Mum got her and too small to be put with me straight away so Mum kept us seperate but in hutches close together for the first few weeks. Mind you she was annoying when we were first introduced as she kept following me everywhere and kept trying to hide under me. There were a few skermishes so Mum made sure we only had short periods running around together on neutral ground like the lounge or the garden. I must admit I was a bit put out - I didn't really want to share all the limelight and attention I was getting from Mum.
However, after a few weeks she moved into my hutch and we became firm partners in crime and mischief. Belle has not quite got the professional attitude to being photographed that I have. The minute a camera or video is turned on her - she's off! I don't think I have any competition there after all! Ha!
We've got the whole garden to run around in - but when we get our paws on a stray bag of Excel it wins every time!!!!!
