UK’S No.1 VET RECOMMENDED RANGE ADDS NEW PRODUCT TO THE FAMILY
Burgess Pet Care is introducing a new recovery food paste for fibrevores who are undergoing an operation or simply just unwilling to eat, for example, in times of stress.

The Excel Recovery Paste has been developed and tested over two years by Burgess Pet Care, in conjunction with veterinary surgeon, Matt Brash, and Dr. Brigitte Reusch from Edinburgh University.
Based on the Burgess Excel recipe plus prebiotics, complex fat and carbohydrate, added extra vitamins and trace minerals to supply a low level of easily digestible energy to invigorate the sick animal which can include rabbits, guinea pigs or chinchillas. Enclosed in a syringe, it is ready to use and easy to administer straight into the fibrevores mouth.
Says Ken Stirk, technical director for Burgess Pet Care: “We pride ourselves on continually being at the forefront of the care of small furry animals and this extension to the Excel range is another step forward. We were keen to make a paste that can be administered easily, efficiently and with minimal mess or wastage. This product has it all; everything a vet and pet owner could want, ensuring focussed post-operative care. Even better, it offers twice the amount of any other product on the market per syringe at a competitive price”
Matt Brash adds; “Rabbits’ digestive systems must be kept moving at all times – even when undergoing an operation. As vet skills improve we are carrying out more complex operations on rabbits and Burgess Pet Care has thankfully developed a product that ensures the rabbit makes a speedy recovery by aiding a quick return to normal digestion.”
The syringe is 30ml and will administer approximately 6 servings over two days meaning owners can take it away with them to allow the care regime to continue when the pet is at home. It is still important to offer the fibrevore their usual food such as Excel Herbage and Forage and Excel nuggets alongside the recovery paste so that they have the option to eat normally as well. Each 30ml syringe is packed into an inner carton. There are six inner cartons in a display box and six display boxes into a case for transport.
The product will be available to vets from the end of April priced from around £41.00 (depending on the wholesaler) for a carton of 6 syringes. It is suitable for all fibrevores including guinea pigs and chinchillas as it contains added Vitamin C. For more information please contact customerservice@burgesspetcare.co.uk

Pet chinchilla food constantly gets glossed over. It should to be good quality pellet and chinchilla-safe plain hays, then wooden logs for their front teeth and goodies for treats. Increasingly there are lots chinchilla foods overloaded with treats in them, but the chinchillas can slowly learn to almost exclusively go after the treat pellets and not eat the pellets of course since they naturally feel them to be more enjoyable. This can advance to malnurishment and an ill chinchilla!
