Diary Of A Supadog:Teaching An Old Dog New Tricks

Well when I say old…I mean 5….Anyway….

It’s Steph again, bringing you this week’s entry of Diary of a Supadog, I’m updating you on what my Siberian Husky – Codi has been up to this week. Well… apart from the pampering, long walks, cuddles…and generally howling when he doesn’t get what he wants. It’s been a quiet week for Codi, so this week I thought I’d give you an insight into how we’ve trained him over the past few years, and how we managed to progress in learning him new tricks.

Before we even attempted to learn Codi tricks, we had to be fully aware about the background of his breed. Huskies are different from other types of dogs and because they were originally bred to work as sled dogs they really are accustomed to being pack leaders and because of this they are naturally strong willed, independent and stubborn. We knew we would have a challenge on our hands so we started with the simple commands such as “Sit” and “No”. We managed to tech him the basics when he was younger and we were successful becuase we rewarded Codi’s good behaviour with small treats, and with a lot of patience and persistence the hard work eventually paid off.  We would never imagine that we could teach Codi anything other than to sit and “no”.

He proved us wrong becuase he loves to learn things and now he understands sit, down, stay and come. Sometimes he has his own agenda so I have to bribe him to do things and he will do anything for food. Now he can jump, crawl and even give kisses, although you do end up being slobbered all over, he can even open or back door that has a VERY stubborn handle on it (sometimes I even struggle to get out!) I’m afraid he’s not able to close it behind him though. As I mentioned one of my previous posts we’ve even managed to teach him some sledding language like “mush” and “halt” for when he goes out on his scooter.

Whoever said you can’t learn old dogs new tricks has never met Codi!

Some of his personal favourites are ‘guess which hand’ and ‘high five’ and he just loves to show these tricks off. Codi loves the Burgess Supadog Sensitive Salmon and Rice that much we’ve even replaced his old treats with individual kibbles, he loves the taste that much! And because Supadog is a premium dog food it includes all of the necessary vitamins, minerals and amino acids in their correct ratio, it’s a healthy reward; unlike other products we’ve had in the past that didn’t particularly agree with Codi which left him feeling rather gassy to say the least.

Supadog Sensitive Customer Feedback

I would just love to thank you for your supadog sensitive…my neapolitan crossbreed suffered from severe wind to put it mildly and tried Chappie dry but this did not help if anything made him worse. A friend said to try supadog sensitive as her german shepherd had it as the only food that he could tolerate so I did and almost immediately the wind stopped.  His poos are lovely(if you could use that adjective!) and no more wind…I have converted several friends to put their dogs on it..they also cant believe the difference.  It is amazing such a reasonably priced food can give fantastic results without resorting to prescription diets as they are extortionate and Mr Mudpie does eat rather a lot!!  I only wish you had kept the weight at 15kilos instead of 12.5 but you cant have everything! I managed to put his pic in your gallery if you want to see how healthy he looks.Thankyou again and again. Nikki x

Supadog Sensitive Customer Feedback

Hi There.
Just wanted you to know that you have just about saved my sanity!!! and you have made a little Whippet one of the happiest tail-wagging Whippets it is possible to find..

‘Little Jo’ is a small rescue Whippet who came to me just over a year ago… A few months down the line he started suffering ‘upset tums’ which after having dozens of veterinary tests and being hospitalised twice, the verdict was ‘Colitis’…..For almost 5months we have tried every tinned and dried food imaginable, including using a pro-biotic daily, only to have one little boy in obvious pain and discomfort. He was full of foul smelling wind, and passing rather dreadful bloodstained and mucus type stools.

The only food that gave any relief at all was tinned Chappie, but even then we still had problems every few days or so.

I contacted your help-line as a last resort and a very helpful advisor called Emma put some samples of Sensitive in the post for us…..Starting off with just 3 pieces a day and increasing daily, we are now 2 weeks down the line and on the full daily quota.
Not one hint of any of the former problems have been seen, and now ‘Little Jo’ is able to really enjoy his life once more.

A huge thank you to all at ‘Supadog’.

Very grateful regards, Su and’ Little Jo.
