Codi’s Dog Diary – Tales of a Supadog

Hi, my name is Steph, and I’m the latest member of the Burgess Pet Care online marketing team.  I’m a huge animal lover and the proud owner of a 5 year old Siberian husky named Codi.  Siberian huskies’ are renowned for their huge personalities and Codi is no exception. He spends a large amount of time playing (most of the time getting up to mischief) being groomed (Oh! to have the life of a dog!) and begging for dog treats. Puppy dog eyes are surely familiar to anyone who owns a dog!

Making a Dog a new addition the family wasn’t a decision that could be made over night, as there are so many things that we needed to take into consideration first. For example, would we able to give the dog plenty of exercise? Could we figure out a schedule around our working lives so that the dog wouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time? We knew from past experience that a new dog would need time to settle in to our home and we wanted to ensure the experience was completely stress-free.  Fortunately for my family there is someone at home during the day, so we could be confident that our new four legged friend would not be left for prolonged periods of time.

After a lot of planning we decided that we wanted to rescue a Siberian husky, as there are many huskies that are abandoned or given away because people don’t realise how much hard work goes into looking after them. As a family we are very familiar with dogs and felt confident that this breed was right for us.

Huskies like being part of a pack and this is what we love about this particular breed of dog; being part of the pack means being part of the family. Huskies need loads of exercise as they are big dogs but this is fine because all of my family are extremely active and love going on long walks and runs all over Yorkshire. This ensures that we have plenty of time and energy as a family to exercise such a high maintenance dog.

After doing our research into the huskie’s behaviour we discovered that they make ‘scrapes’ which are shallow holes that they dig in the wild to keep themselves warm. We had to prepare ourselves for Codi doing this in our garden, so we expected holes to be dug out all over the place! We also had to take into consideration the cost of owning such a breed; we wanted to get him micro chipped and had to think about the cost of vets bills, food, toys and grooming.

When we rescued Codi he was just over a year old, and he was quite a reserved and quiet dog. We expected it to take quite a while for him settle into our family, but it was surprising that it only took a few days for him to feel comfortable. Before long we had a content and happy companion.

Codi has been with us for four years now and is a real part of the family. We get up to some fantastic adventures and every week I will update you with some of the highlights.

So for this week “Goodbye” from myself and Codi!

Charlie boy our new long termer aged nearly 9, all skin and bone btw.. decided to take his pick of boxes…oops..!!
you guessed it he musta sniffered all along the boxes lined up the hallway and chose one at the bottom and started to break into the prize he won.. He chose..wait for it….BURGESS SUPADOG SENSITIVE…. he knows what he likes.

Charlie is on 4  meals a day of 190g to improve his condition and gain the much needed weight..he weighs only 25kg at the moment and we are monitoring his daily intakes…He is much more settled today, he has been here 2 weeks and although no weight gain as yet, he is showing muscle tone improvement.  He is less anxious around us eating now and we are ‘safer’ to eat at the table and my secret stash of sweets are also safe..

Charlie, when he arrived at the rescue

On the road to recovery, with a little help from Supadog Sensitive!

Hoping you dont get too upset at the pics..

Supadog Sensitive Customer Testimonial

Hi,

This is just a compliment email really.  I have a 2 year old siberian husky, which when we rescued him at 12 weeks had 4 different life threatening stomach parasites.  Luckily my partner is a vet nurse, so he was given immediate emergency attention.  We managed to kill the paracites and get him back to health even though he was very under weight.  He has had a severe upset stomach for nearly 2 years on and off and we tried so many different sensitive and hypoallergenic dog foods.  Finally we try supadog sensitive lamb, which is the only meat he is allowed.  He has not had upset stomach once in 3 weeks.  Its unbeleivable and hes starting to look fantastic in himself aswell.

Thanks very much for a fantastic food.

Kind regards,

T. Sawyer

How to become a Sled Dog on The Polaris Sled Dog Team – Shanta’s Story

Burges Pet Care sponsor the Polaris Sled Dog Team and provide them with all their feeding needs throughout the year. All the dogs are fed on Supadog Active apart from Skye, who enjoys Supadog Light.

Here, the dog’s owner Mike, has told us about Shanta – the newest addition to his team of beautiful Husky dogs.

Shanta’s story or how to become a Sled Dog on The Polaris Sled Dog Team…

I received a phone call from Bristol RSPCA Cats and Dogs Home, asking me if I could come and asses a Husky for them that had been with them for about three months, as I am on there help list for Husky’s. So me and my wife Alison accompanied by Skye and Diesel went to visit Shanta.

Alison and my self were shown in to the meet and great room were we meet Shanta and we fell in love with her straight away. We were told how some people had been trying to adopted her but they weren’t following the guide from the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain that I gave to the RSPCA when I went on there help list.

We talked a bit more and then we asked if we could go for a walk with all three, we introduced them all at the van in the car park and this went well so with Skye and Diesel with me Alison with Shanta off we went. Half a hour later we came back with all three walking next to each other as if they had been together from the start.

We did four more walks with them all and on Friday the 13th of August we fully adopted Shanta.

She is number three in the pack and is Diesels best friend around the house, they play games together and get into trouble together. Shanta has started training with Skye and Diesel in harness ready for the 2010-2011 Sled Dog Racing season, we have covered about 4 miles at present but we shall really start to build up the mileage from this weekend on. Shanta loves her food, she is on the Supadog Active  and has treats of the lite food.

Polaris Sled Dog Team thank all at Burgess for their suport.

Mike, Skye, Diesel and Shanta.

Boxers on Supadog Sensitive

Here is a little story with piccies of our boxer babes in our care.

Poppy, Brindle girl 9 yrs fostered has a medical condition that means she is intollerant to all sorts of things, we have tried her on the science plan diet for digestion and this is so expensive, that even this caused her to have bouts of looseness…Since using Supadog Sensitive, she has this problem solved and now we are dealing with her other medical problems, but at least she now has a comfy tummy…

Clarkson, my lad of 5 yrs, has suffered immensely since a sickly puppy with colitis…His attacks have been both baffling and expensive to say the least.  He has had problem after problem with not gaining weight and looking to be honest like a poor orphan…but he is loved so much and has had the best vet care…He did settle on a food which caused less occurrence of colitis, but ate it begrudgingly…Since Poppy started on the food, he has shown little interest in his own food, so we thought ‘dare we’….we dared and since feed times is an excitable and noisy affair with dogs whining and crying to be fed…never before seen in this house…

Thanks Burgess, please do not change your recipe its working for 2 of the fussiest and difficult tummy upset boxers on the planet….well done…

Enjoy the piccies..xxxx

btw..Bertie is the old guy chilling out with Clarkson after his feed… the next dog to be changed over.  He isn’t so fussy and will eat anything so is using up our rejected foods..xxx (he prefers your Beef casserole)

Supadog Sensitive Customer Feedback

I would just love to thank you for your supadog sensitive…my neapolitan crossbreed suffered from severe wind to put it mildly and tried Chappie dry but this did not help if anything made him worse. A friend said to try supadog sensitive as her german shepherd had it as the only food that he could tolerate so I did and almost immediately the wind stopped.  His poos are lovely(if you could use that adjective!) and no more wind…I have converted several friends to put their dogs on it..they also cant believe the difference.  It is amazing such a reasonably priced food can give fantastic results without resorting to prescription diets as they are extortionate and Mr Mudpie does eat rather a lot!!  I only wish you had kept the weight at 15kilos instead of 12.5 but you cant have everything! I managed to put his pic in your gallery if you want to see how healthy he looks.Thankyou again and again. Nikki x

Supadog Beef Casserole Customer Feedback

Dry or wet dog foodDear Burgess,

I just wanted to send you some good feedback on one of your Supadog products, Burgess Supadog Adult Canine Beef Caserole Dry.

We have never tried your food before and when we were offered a sample in The Dogs Monthly Magazine we thought lets give it a try as we were looking to change our dogs food to something better anyway and the one you advertised sounded great (Burgess Supadog Adult Canine Beef Caserole Dry)..

The offer was a free 2KG bag of Burgess Supadog Adult Canine Beef Caserole Dry and it was supplied by VetsUK. Our Golden Retriever, male aged 4 absolutely loved it and so we kept him on it for a few days to see how he went.

Every morning and evening he tucked into the food happily and we loved what the product gave us – the best of both worlds (wet and dry food). We have now decided to change Harley\’s (our dog) food to this product full time and I\’m sure he\’ll be one very happy dog.

Harley has always been fussy with any dry food so its great to see that he loved your food, he enjoyed it both dry and wet and it was a joy to see.

When we originally decided to change his food we were just planning on changing to some high quality biscuits and some slightly better wet food. Well after our dog having your sample of Burgess Supadog Adult Canine Beef Caserole Dry we are now changing over to that only and no longer going to feed him wet tin food. He now gets the best of both worlds in just one bag of food!

Thank you for making a great product and the free sample offer, I doubt that otherwise we would of even considered it as A) we\’d be unsure if Harley would like it and B) We don\’t even see your biscuits around on the internet pet food shops that we use. Luckily with our free sample was the company that sent it out, VetsUK and they supply your food and have reasonable P&P charges so great news all around!

Thank you Burgess, great new idea for dog food that I am sure will be a big hit. All I want to ask is are you planning on doing the same food in different meats/flavours? for example right now the only one available is Beef Caserole, it would be lovely to see Chicken, Lamb and so on.

We are both looking forward to seeing our dog after a few months of being on your food, we are hoping not only will he continue to be happy with his food but that it will also improve his coat in look and feel – always a good sign that its doing him some good!

Kind Regards

Rosie and Duncan Coombes, and not forgetting Harley the Golden Retriever!

Supadog Sensitive Customer Feedback

Hi There.
Just wanted you to know that you have just about saved my sanity!!! and you have made a little Whippet one of the happiest tail-wagging Whippets it is possible to find..

‘Little Jo’ is a small rescue Whippet who came to me just over a year ago… A few months down the line he started suffering ‘upset tums’ which after having dozens of veterinary tests and being hospitalised twice, the verdict was ‘Colitis’…..For almost 5months we have tried every tinned and dried food imaginable, including using a pro-biotic daily, only to have one little boy in obvious pain and discomfort. He was full of foul smelling wind, and passing rather dreadful bloodstained and mucus type stools.

The only food that gave any relief at all was tinned Chappie, but even then we still had problems every few days or so.

I contacted your help-line as a last resort and a very helpful advisor called Emma put some samples of Sensitive in the post for us…..Starting off with just 3 pieces a day and increasing daily, we are now 2 weeks down the line and on the full daily quota.
Not one hint of any of the former problems have been seen, and now ‘Little Jo’ is able to really enjoy his life once more.

A huge thank you to all at ‘Supadog’.

Very grateful regards, Su and’ Little Jo.

Supadog Sensitive Customer Feedback

Hi Nicki

As per our conversation, I would like to confirm the following:

I have a long haired German Shepherd who is now just turned nine years
old.  She has always been fed dried food. I opted for the Hills large
breed as this was recommended by my vet.  She has been on this food since
she was a puppy (8 weeks old). Last year she decided she did not like this
anymore and I changed her food accordingly.  I purchased the Royal Canin
German shepherd dried food.  After a week or so, she came out in bad
rashes and was loosing hair from her back end.  After a £300 vet bill we
decided that this must be down to the food as nothing else had been
changed.  I moved her back onto the Hills and her skin cleared up. I would
now never feed any of my animals on the Royal Canin range.

After speaking to Nicki about this, she suggested that I try your
sensitive product as this would be gentle on er stomach etc and would be
more cost effective (paying £53 for 15kg bag lasting 1 month).  As you can
understand, I was slightly reluctant at first as she had such a bad
reaction to the Royal Canin.  She tried the food and really enjoyed it and
as yet, her skin is clear and she seems very happy.  She now loves the
food and I have stopped buying the Hills and now and only buy your
Supa-Dog Sensitive.  I am very impressed and have told all of my friends
and family.  If you would like to include this on your website or to
potential customers/suppliers I am more than happy.

Thanks again
